A large percentage of enterprise system implementations will fail to fully achieve their goals if users are not appropriately prepared, motivated, and trained to make changes in the way they work. Simply put, the benefits of even the most well-designed MES cannot be realized if the users do not understand how to use it. While there are many benefits to a modular MES, there are also unique challenges for the end-users. It is not uncommon for users to engage with multiple modules, creating challenges for effective training development and delivery. In these modular system environments, training must be driven by user roles and work processes rather than the features and functions of the MES. When training is developed in silos by different vendors with different methods, opportunities for confusion, inefficiency, and poor adoption of the MES increase. For these reasons, training needs to be centralized and integrated across the MES. A training integration approach ensures training is role-based and spans discrete modules, improving workflows and system performance.
This session will cover the experience of the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) in successfully integrating training during an innovative MES implementation.
