Track 1: INDUSTRY SESSION: The Art of the Possible: Transforming Outcomes Applying AI and Expanded Data Sources

Data analysis often focuses on health care claims and encounters to monitor outcomes, review service utilization, and evaluate program effectiveness. States can expand this view by incorporating new data sources including documents and semi-structured data (interoperability service calls). Traditionally, states have maintained documents and service calls for other purposes ─ from authorizing health care services to responding to inquiries. Machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) provide exciting options to enhance current and create new analyses using these data sources in new ways. Algorithms within these technologies can perform natural language processing (NLP) against content embedded in documents and service calls, identifying  text patterns such as unique recipient identifiers, diagnosis codes, and sensitive information categories. Algorithm outputs tag data to the content for states to combine with other information to support robust, expanded analyses.
During this session, the Deloitte team will discuss processes and provide examples of integrating document and semi-structured content to enhance analyses, enable a whole-recipient view of care, and improve outcomes.
